In this episode,”German Bridge is Falling Down”, Col Hogan convinces Col Klink to call a surprise roll call by telling him that some of his men were planning an escape, and Hogan didnt want any of his men to get hurt or killed by making such a foolish attempt. The whole thing was a ploy just to get his men out in front of the barraks when a British bomber was flying over. While Col Klink boasts on about how there has never been an escape from Stalag 13, Col Hogan turns to the crew and says “Smoke em if you got em”. The prisoners had already lined themselves up into an arrow, pointing in the direction of the target, a local bridge. However, the bombers missed their target, and once again Col Hogan and his men were put in charge of finishing the job. Read more about this episode “German Bridge is Falling Down”.

The episode’s title is based on the traditional British nursery rhyme, London Bridge is falling down.
A strange , Carter has to escape a collapsing tunnel and comes up through a foot locker. This is the only time that this apparent “emergency escape hatch” is used in the series. It is also the first time, but not the last, that Carter will wind up inside a footlocker (he does so again in The Most Escape-Proof Camp I’ve Ever Escaped From).
This is the first and only time the title of the show was mentioned in the show itself. Though the title is implied in The Softer They Fall as Hogan mentions he wouldn’t want to be known as leading “Hogan’s Cowards.”
